Needless to say, this book only scratches the surface of Jewish culture, history, faith, and practice, but it is a great starting point for anyone who wants to know more about the subject. As a non-Jew myself, I was struck by the familiarity and affection that Wouk had, not just for the scriptures which he quoted profusely, but also for the traditions, the feast days, the prayers, the rituals, and especially the community that comprise what it means to be a Jew.
